Angus lies on the East coast half way up Scotland.

The Late Queen Mother spent her childhood in Glamis Castle in the centre of Angus almost 100 years ago.

The writer J.M.Barrie was born in Kirriemuir - his stories were just a fairy tale in 'Peter Pan'.

Robert Peel is associated with Montrose - he was famous for starting the police force originally called 'peelers'.

Then there was Scott of the Antarctic.

What more can I say but come and visit this historic part of Scotland with Grampian Mountains to the left and the north sea to right, sorry West and East.

The region is steeped in history.  Apart from the history what else is there?

The central part is the Strathmore plain which extends into Aberdeenshire, but let’s not go there. The Strathmore plain boasts of the best farmland in Scotland. Think of Angus and think of Angus Steaks, a product of the fertile land. But also think of its raspberries and strawberries; daffodils and oil seed rape. The hills are alive with sheep and deer. Tucked in the North west of the region are the Southern Grampians with its splendid glens. The glens and the surrounding hills afford many types of walking terrain.

To the East is the coast with its old fishing villages and beaches. Montrose along the coast has the largest tidal water basin in Scotland and is a protective reserve for many a bird. In the winter it becomes the winter home for large flocks of wild geese.

The many amateur drama groups take in the cultural side along with visiting professionals at the Abbey Theatre in Arbroath. Kirriemuir has a week’s musical festival. The locals participate in Scottish country dancing, line dancing, ballroom dancing, disco and ceilidhs.

Lots of leisure centres cater for sports. Sea angling and stream fishing are catered for. As for golf, there are 16 courses in Angus itself.

You can enjoy Angus on foot, bicycle, bus, train, steam-train  and /or by car.
